Tinnitus – noises in the head or ears with no external source – affects a significant number of people across all age groups. If you are experiencing tinnitus, it is important to get your hearing levels checked as a hearing loss may have occurred concurrently.
As part of your tinnitus assessment, James Hearing specialists will perform pure tone audiometry and document any tinnitus characteristics. Using this information, our supportive Hearing Therapist can organise the fitting of electronic ‘masking’ devices and propose numerous habituation tactics to alleviate the negative effects of tinnitus on your well-being.
Tinnitus Match and Masking - This test is performed to assess the character of your tinnitus and its subjective loudness above threshold. A second part of the test measures the sound input required to mask out the tinnitus so that it cannot be heard. This information is useful in evaluating annoyance, disability and response to treatment.
We can offer you an initial appointment to assess your condition and then make a personalised treatment plan that could include the fitting of a Tinnitus Masker, or rehabilitation and counselling. Tinnitus can be associated with hearing loss, so it’s important your hearing is assessed too.
We also produce Tinnitus Assessments and Tinnitus Reports for Solicitors and Medico-Legal agencies.

S-Tones, A Novel Advance in Sound Therapy
Serenade consists of multiple tracks of soft treatment sounds to enable acute and long-term relief as part of a sound therapy program.
The three types of sounds are S-Tones, custom narrowband stimuli, and broadband sounds. Of these, the narrowband and broadband stimuli represent traditional, established approaches. S-Tones however, are novel, temporally patterned sounds customized to each individual’s tinnitus.
Studies suggest that S-Tones can offer immediate relief. They can also be used as part of a long-term tinnitus treatment program to provide long-term relief. Built on a scientific theory of tinnitus and known neurophysiology, S-Tones represent a novel, advanced technology and a customized medical approach to treating tinnitus.
