Excessive, impacted ear wax can be painful and can cause hearing loss
Do you suffer from any of these symptoms?
- A feeling of fullness in the ear
- The sensation of hearing everything muffled
- Mild tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ear)
- Sudden hearing loss after swimming or showering
If any of these symptoms sound familiar then you could have excess ear wax blocking your ear canal.
We offer a comprehensive, private earwax removal service working within the the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Horton Hospital, Banbury. Our registered nurses are trained in microsuction and curettage techniques to complete this simple procedure and effectively relieve blocked ears.
About microsuction ear wax removal
Microsuction is the preferred method of ear wax removal used by ENT (ear nose and throat) consultants. It is a completely safe and pain-free method of wax removal. A great thing about microsuction is that no pre-treatment is required - so there is no need for weeks of softening with drops prior to treatment.
A microscope is used to view the delicate structures of the ear canal and ear drum and a special suction device is used to remove ear wax. The procedure normally takes between 5 and 15 minutes to complete and in most cases, relief is instant.
Microsuction is appropriate for those with a perforated ear drum, hearing aid wearers, people who urgently need wax removed prior to flying and vertigo and tinnitus sufferers.
The actual removal usually takes between 5 - 15 minutes.
Don't try and remove ear wax yourself
It is not a good idea to try and remove ear wax with cotton buds, as this very often pushes it towards the ear drum, can cause even more problems and make it more difficult to remove. You should never poke anything down your ear with the view of relieving the problem yourself; the lining of the ear is very delicate and can easily be damaged. There are home removal kits available, however these need to be used carefully. Hopi ear candles just don't work, it is a sham. Leave it to one of our registered clinical specialists to remove the ear wax for you.
